WU-17: the Ukrainian women's national team defeated Latvia and advanced to the League A qualification for the European Championship
Today, March 6, the Ukrainian women's U17 team played their second match in the second qualifying round of Euro-2023 in Bulgaria.

After winning the first match against Bulgaria (2:1), Sergei Sapronov's team today faced Latvia.
There was no fierce battle in this encounter. Already in the first half, our girls scored twice on their opponents' goalkeeper: Linda Mergup-Kartwright scored an own goal and Lidia Zaborovets did not miss from the penalty spot.
After halftime, Ukrainian players frustrated Latvia's goalkeeper three more times. Kateryna Yuzva, Marina Ptitsyna, and Dina Borovska set the final score of the match at 5:0.
Thus, Ukraine WU-17 secured first place in Group V6 and accordingly qualified for League A of the next cycle, Euro-2024.

Teams in League B, including those that dropped out of League A after the autumn stage, compete in six groups (two with four participants each and four with three) for spots in the first round of League A next season. These are awarded to group winners as well as the best second-place team.
As a reminder, Ukraine's women's national team finished last in their Group V6 of the first round and dropped down to League B.
In League A, 28 teams compete across seven groups, including seven teams that rose from League B after the results of the first round. Seven group winners of the second round of League A (and the best runner-up if Estonia finishes first in their group) will qualify for the final stage, whose matches will take place between May 14 and 26. Teams finishing fourth in their groups will start the first round of the season-2023/2024 in League B.
