March 3, the Ukrainian women's national team WU-17 will start in Bulgaria in the second qualifying round of Euro-2023. In Lizzy B, our compatriots will first face the hosts, and on March 6 they will play against their Latvian counterparts.
— Thanks to the support of the leadership of the Ukrainian Football Association, my wards have had the opportunity to conduct a four-day training camp in Bulgarian Svishtov,— said head coach of the women's national team WU-17 Sergei Sapronov in an interview with the official website of the UAF. — We arrived at the venue by bus via Romania on February 26. On the 27th, we will hold our first training session, focusing mainly on defining the playing roles of the players, and on the 28th, a friendly match is planned. Our opponents will arrive in Svishtov on the first day of spring.
— What information do you have about your opponents?
— We have video recordings of their matches from last year's first qualifying round for Euro-2023, which also took place in Lizzy B. Of course, adjustments will be necessary as there have been quite significant changes in the lineups. Even our team has nine new players.
— Did all the players you were counting on make it to Bulgaria?
— No, goalkeeper Viktoriya Kanivska from "Panthers" had issues with her documents, and we had to replace her with Ulana Solovyova from "Dnipro-1".
— Have you noticed that among your wards there are two foreign players…
— Yes, these are Ruslana Aliyeva from Swiss "Vippingen" and Marina Ptitsyna from German "Wolfsburg". On the way to Bulgaria, we picked them up at Bucharest airport in Romania. I hope that it is precisely these girls who will take on leadership roles.
— What task do you plan to set for your wards?
— To return to the elite. Second place would be considered a failure.

Teams in Lizzy B, including those that were relegated after the autumn stage of the League A, compete in six groups (two with four participants and four with three) for spots in the first round of next year's League A. These go to group winners as well as the best second-placed team.
As a reminder, the women's national team Ukraine finished last in their group during the first round and was relegated to Lizzy B.
In Lizzy A, seven groups will feature 28 teams, including seven that have been promoted from Lizzy B following the results of the first round. Seven group winners in the second round of League A (and the best second-placed team if Estonia finishes first in their group) will secure spots at the final stage, which will take place between May 14 and 26. Teams that finish fourth in their groups will start next season's first round in Lizzy B.
