In November of last year the UEFA Executive Committee, which includes Andriy Pavelko, president of the UAF, approved the format for matches in the Women's Nations League and qualifying tournaments for European and World Championships among women teams according to UEFA's Time For Action strategy aimed at developing women's football.

It has been announced that the first-ever draw for the Women's Nations League will take place on May 2nd. Leagues A and B will each consist of 16 teams, divided into four groups of four teams each. League C will include 19 teams, split into four groups of four and one group of three (the actual composition of League C groups will depend on the number of participating teams). The composition of leagues and seeding before the draw will be determined by the current UEFA women's national team ranking. For example, Ukraine is currently ranked 22nd, which means they are set to enter League B.

All matches will take place over six matchdays, with each team playing one home and one away game against all other teams in their group. Depending on the ranking at the group stage after the sixth round of matches, teams may retain their positions in the league, automatically move up or down, or participate in promotion/relegation play-offs.

In 2023, participants of the Nations League are scheduled to have six match windows: September 20-22 and 23-26, October 25-27 and 28-31, November 29 - December 1, and December 2-5.

The final ranking of the Nations League will determine the starting position of teams in the qualification system for the European Championship 2025, which will begin in spring 2024 and take place in the same format as the Nations League.
