The format, composition of participants, and calendar of matches for the first and second leagues of the 2022/2023 season have been determined, according to a press release from the PFL press service.
The war has brought changes to the domestic football championship — many clubs in the first and second leagues were forced to withdraw. This compelled the PFL, together with the clubs, to develop a new approach to forming the composition of participants and the format for the upcoming season.
Thus, after consultations with all clubs, it was decided to approve the composition of participants in the Ukrainian football championship among first league clubs for the 2022/2023 season (two groups — Group A and Group B) based on a territorial principle.

We remind you that 30 years ago (in the Premier League of 1992), this tournament format was already used. In the season-2022/2023, it is planned to hold matches in two stages — two groups with eight teams each, two rounds in 14 games, 56 matches per group at the first stage (a total of 112 matches).
At the second stage, the top four places in each group will form a group for promotion to the UPL based on points earned against each other during the first stage. The bottom four teams will form a group for the right to play in the First League based on their results from matches played against each other at the first stage.
At the second stage, teams from Group A will play only with teams from Group B in two rounds, 32 matches per group. Each team will play eight matches.
In total, there will be 176 matches played in the championship. Each team will play 22 matches. The top two teams earn a direct promotion to the UPL, while third and fourth place teams from the First League will play playoff matches for promotion — the third-place team from the First League plays against the 14th-place team from the UPL, and the fourth-place team from the First League plays against the 13th-place team from the UPL.
The draw of the match schedule took place immediately after the XXX PFL Conference, which was held today.
The match schedules for Group A and Group B are available for review.
It was also decided to approve the composition of participants in the Ukrainian football championship among second league clubs for the 2022/2023 season.
