President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the nation, speaking about Russia's gas price terrorism against Europe and the massive losses suffered by occupiers since their invasion of our country.
"Ukrainians! Ukrainian women!
Indestructible people of the strongest country!
Today, the occupiers struck again at Odesa Oblast, once again hitting civilian homes with rockets. Rockets designed to destroy military ships and other significant targets are being used by Russia's army to destroy private property near the sea. People lived there, rested...
And we will definitely respond for this, no matter what the Russian Ministry of Defense claims about such strikes. The constant terror in Kharkiv and its region, Mykolaiv, cities and villages in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, Dnipropetrovsk, Donbas, border areas of Sumy and Chernihiv regions - all this will not go unpunished for the occupiers.
For four months now, the Russian state has not informed its citizens about any information - even censored - regarding the losses of the occupying contingent. Complete silence. Nothing was published or said in numerous interviews and speeches at political and military levels. However, this number is already close to 40 thousand - that's how many people the Russian army lost killed since February 24th. And there are tens of thousands injured, maimed.
And if the Russian state does not say this officially and even in general terms, it means that everyone who still has any contacts in Russia or informational influence on their society should convey this simple fact to those they can. 40 thousand killed occupiers alone.
Today it became known that the UK expanded its sanctions list against Russia. Dozens of individuals and organizations were added. This is a correct trend, and I am grateful to the UK for their unwavering firmness in sanction matters. It's an example worth following by all others in the Western world.
In particular, today's news about another provoked rise in gas prices on European exchanges above $2000 per thousand cubic meters - this is already a sufficient reason to expand sanctions against Russia. Since it's clear that this is a deliberate price terrorism by Russia against Europe. Using 'Gazprom', Moscow is doing everything to make this winter the hardest for European countries. Terrorism must be answered - with sanctions.
Today, for the first time in the history of international relations between Ukraine and Uruguay, I held talks with Mr. President of this Latin American country. Thanked him for support in international organizations and called on Uruguay, like others in the Latin American region, to introduce sanctions against Russia. We will do everything so that there is no region left in the world where they don't understand the truth about Russian aggression. We already have communication with Chile, Paraguay, Costa Rica. And now - Uruguay. We will continue this work.
And a few more significant events worth mentioning. Today in London, at Boris Johnson's Prime Ministerial participation, the Winston Churchill Leadership Award ceremony took place. I believe that this is an honor for all our heroes, all our people, everyone who resists tyranny on their level. And it was truly an honor for me to receive this award.
Today in the Netherlands, a country we worked hard to understand, the Ukrainian people were honored with another special award - the Special Award of Dutch Independence. Our ambassador received it on behalf of Ukrainians. Especially these significant things reflect the fundamental changes in attitudes towards Ukraine that have taken place around the world. Our courage truly inspires all free nations and generally the community of democratic states. And just imagine how our Ukrainian victory will inspire.
Tonight I signed a decree on awarding our warriors. 198 participants in combat operations were honored with state awards of Ukraine. Two of them - posthumously.
Eternal memory to all who gave their lives for Ukraine!
Eternal glory to all who fight for the independence of our country!
Glory to Ukraine!"
