In the first round of the Euro 2022 elite round, Ukraine's youth team (players born in or after 2003) defeated Norway (3:2), and in the second match drew with Serbia (1:1). Today, they faced a tough challenge against the hosts — the Netherlands.

To qualify for the final tournament, it was necessary to secure first place, which required winning.

However, the opening of the match belonged to the Dutch team, who also had a chance to advance to Euro 2022. The hosts were the first to take a corner kick and the first to shoot on goal. While Ledviy held off Gouben's shot in the eighth minute, he couldn't prevent Poku from scoring in the fifteenth minute. 0:1. The Ukrainians didn't immediately respond but tried to impose their style of play on the opponent. At times this worked, but unfortunately, they failed to score before halftime despite having more goal-scoring opportunities than the hosts — 2:1.

The start of the second half dramatically changed the picture on the field. On the forty-seventh minute, the Dutch goalkeeper Rufus received a red card for a foul on Voloshyn. After this, Ukraine pushed forward. In the fifty-fifth minute, after a corner kick executed by Yatsyk, Kozik equalized with an accurate shot. 1:1. From then on, Ukraine's superiority was unquestionable. By the end of the match, their advantage in shots was significant (17:7), but the ball wouldn't go into the net. And yet, at the ninetieth minute, Popov put Ukraine ahead. 2:1.

Unfortunately, this victory wasn't enough. Serbia beat Norway — 3:2 and with an equal number of points, a draw in head-to-head matches, and identical goal differences, they secured first place according to the regulations due to fewer disciplinary points (ten yellow cards compared to thirteen for us).
