The Spanish "Barcelona" managed to take revenge for last year's defeat and became the fourth time in their history the winner of Europe's most prestigious club competition.
In the capital of Latvia, Riga, the final of the fourth edition of the 2021/2022 Champions League of futsal took place. On April 29, in the semi-finals, Spanish "Barcelona" defeated Portuguese "Benfica" (5:4), and Portuguese "Sporting" beat French "Anjou-Villeneuve" (6:2).
Accordingly, today's match for third place saw "Anjou-Villeneuve" against "Benfica". The stronger team turned out to be the Lisbon-based side — 5:2.
Today's final almost exactly repeated last year's one that took place in Zadar, Croatia — "Sporting" faced "Barcelona". Back then, with a score of 4:3, the Portuguese won for the second time in their history. This season, however, the Catalan team managed to take a convincing revenge by defeating their opponent 4:0.
We add that the functions of UEFA delegate at the final matches were performed by Marina Kyriluk, representing the Ukrainian Futsal Association.
"Barcelona" became the club champion of Europe for the fourth time in their history. Previously, they won the Champions League of futsal in seasons 2011/2012, 2013/2014 and 2019/2020.
We remind that the Ukrainian champion — "Hurricane" — also participated in the tournament. Unfortunately, the Ivano-Frankivsk team finished their competition in the elite round, securing fourth place in Group D.
