FIFA published a statement on its official website with decisions regarding the punishment of Russia for its aggression against Ukraine.

«First and foremost, FIFA strongly condemns the use of force by Russia during its invasion of Ukraine. Violence is not a solution to any issues, and FIFA expresses solidarity with all those who have suffered as a result of what is happening in Ukraine.

FIFA calls for an immediate restoration of peace and a constructive dialogue that must begin immediately. FIFA maintains close contacts with the Ukrainian Football Association and members of the Ukrainian football community.

To address issues related to football, the FIFA Council Bureau, with the participation of the FIFA President and six Presidents of Continental Confederations, unanimously decided to take immediate measures in accordance with recommendations from the International Olympic Committee (IOC). These will be applied until further notice.

FIFA Decisions

1. There will be no international matches on Russian territory, and home matches for clubs and the national team will take place on neutral ground without spectators.

2. Russia will participate in any competitions under the name «Russian Football Union (RFU)», not «Russia».

3. The flag or anthem of Russia will not be used in matches involving teams from the Russian Football Union.

FIFA will continue its current dialogue with the IOC, UEFA and other sports organizations to determine any additional measures or sanctions, including potential disqualification from competitions, which may be applied in the near future if the situation does not improve quickly.

The FIFA Council Bureau remains ready to adopt any of these decisions. It is important that FIFA firmly believes that the sports movement must be united in its decisions on this issue and that sport should remain a vector of peace and hope.

Regarding future World Cup qualifying matches, FIFA has taken into account the positions of the Polish Football Association, the Football Association of the Czech Republic and the Swedish Football Association and is already in dialogue with all parties.

FIFA will support close contacts to find acceptable solutions together. FIFA is thinking of everyone who has suffered from this shocking situation.»

Recall that on February 24, in light of the military aggression by the Russian Federation against Ukraine, the UAF sent appropriate appeals to FIFA and UEFA after the decision of the executive committee, and on February 25, UEFA adopted important decisions regarding the aggressor country following an emergency meeting of its executive committee.
