Today, on August 31, two central showdowns between teams that qualified to represent Ukraine in European competitions took place. In Kyiv, "Dynamo" hosted "Polesye." Tomer Yosef opened the scoring as early as the seventh minute. However, under the guidance of Oleksandr Shovkouskyi, his team not only equalized but also went ahead with efforts from Guerrero and Boyalshytskyi, who scored a brace — 3:1.
In the second half, Nazar Voloshyn finally settled any doubts about the winner. The score was 4:1 — the blue-and-whites demonstrated their best start to the season with four wins in four matches.
At "Lviv Arena," where "Shakhtar" hosted silver medalist "Oleksandria," there were no dramatic twists. The orange and black team made a strong claim for victory even before halftime. First, Artem Bondarenko headed in Pedrinho's pass, and shortly before the break, the Brazilian himself doubled the lead.
In the second half, guest goalkeeper Viktor Dolhyi, who replaced experienced Mykita Shevchenko at halftime, saved a penalty from Elías. However, this did not save "Oleksandria" from defeat.
This round saw bright performances by players called up by Serhiy Rebrov for the September national team matches. In Dynamo's lineup, Taras Mykhalko, Mykola Shaparenko, and Nazar Voloshyn played the full match (Voloshyn scored a goal), while Vitaliy Boyalshytskyi was substituted in the 80th minute. Oleksiy Hutsulak of Polesye played all 90 minutes and provided an assist for a goal. Bohdan Mykhailichenko and Oleksandr Nazarenko also started but were substituted at the 59th and 73rd minutes, respectively.
For Shakhtar, Dmitro Riznyk, Valeriy Bondar, Mykola Matviyenko, and Oleg Ocheretko played from start to finish. Artem Bondarenko, whose goal proved decisive, was substituted in the added time, while Yurim Konoplia made his debut with a full first half.
Pavel Kalyuzhnyi of Metalist 1925 traditionally led his team out as captain and played the entire match against Rukh.
Now, the Premier League is on a break due to the national team's start in World Cup 2026 qualifiers: On September 5, blue-and-yellow will play against France, and on the 9th — against Azerbaijan. Matches of the fifth round of the Ukrainian championship will start on September 12.
