Alexander Kosenko's wards continued their run in the main round of Euro-2026 floorball qualification with a home match against Cyprus, which took place in Koszalin, Poland.
The blue-and-yellow team confidently led the group after four wins — over Cyprus (7:0), Romania (2:0) and Germany (5:3, 9:0). Today, the Ukrainians hosted Cyprus in Koszalin, Poland.
Our team quickly opened the score — Zhuk closed out a long shot. On the 9th minute, he could have scored a brace but missed a penalty awarded for an opposing player's handball. However, shortly after that, Melnyk and Semenchenko scored, increasing Ukraine's lead.
The Cypriots decided to bring their goalkeeper into the role of fifth fielder, and on the 14th minute Zhuk sent the ball into an empty net after intercepting it. In the first half of the match, our players scored three more times — Abakshin, Zhuk, and Zvarych were credited with goals. However, their opponents managed to break the deadlock.
Our boys didn't stop there and immediately after halftime scored twice more thanks to Melnyk and Pervezhev's efforts. On the 30th minute, Zhuk completed his fourth goal of the game for Ukraine and the tenth overall in this match. Later, Melnyk secured a hat-trick, and ultimately, the Ukrainian team won with a score of 11:1.
Thus, Alexander Kosenko's wards have now achieved five wins out of five matches. Since Romania lost to Germany today, Ukraine has secured their spot at Euro-2026 in advance.
In the final match of Group 1, blue-and-yellow will host Romania. The home game is scheduled for April 15 (kickoff — 7 PM Kyiv time).

The Euro-2026 floorball championship will be the second tournament after expanding the final stage from 12 to 16 teams and deciding to hold it every four years instead of two.
Qualification includes three stages: a preliminary round (mini-tournaments), the main round (groups with home and away matches) and playoffs (home and away matches).
The tournament hosts, Latvia and Lithuania, qualified for Euro-2026 automatically. Some teams started in the preliminary round, others — directly in the main.
Main Round (December 9, 2024 – April 16, 2025)
Forty participants (34 best national teams according to the ranking as of December 2023 and six best from the preliminary round) were divided into ten groups of four teams each. Each team will play against every other in their group at home and away. The ten group winners join Latvia and Lithuania in the final stage, while the eight best second-placed teams will compete in the playoffs.
During the draw, the national teams were divided into four pots of 10 teams each based on their coefficients as of April 18, 2024.
Playoffs (September 15-24, 2025)
The draw will take place on May 21, 2025. Eight teams will be paired into four pairs. After home and away matches, the last four participants of the final stage will be determined.
Final Tournament (January 20 – February 7, 2026)
The draw will take place on October 24, 2025. Sixteen teams will be divided into four groups. The top two from each group advance to the quarter-finals.
