According to the draw results for the European qualifier of the 2026 World Cup, Ukraine's national team has been placed in Group D, where they will play against France — Croatia (the quarter-finalist of the Nations League-2024/2025), Iceland, and Azerbaijan.

The coach of the Azerbaijani national team, Fernandu Santush, commented on the draw results, according to the official website of AFA.

The draw has been made and there is nothing we can change now. The most important thing now is to learn more about our opponents. After the Nations League playoffs, it will be clear whether we will play against France or Croatia. Our other competitors are Ukraine and Iceland. The most important thing is to prepare our team for these matches.

It's good that we don't have any official matches in March and June. We will have time to prepare for the group stage games. During this period, we will play friendly matches so that our team is ready for the qualifying cycle which starts in September», — said Fernandu Santush.
