U-21: Ukraine and Italy finish level in friendly match
As part of their preparation for the final EURO 2025 (U-21) tournament, Ukraine's U-21 national team played a friendly match against Italy today on the road.
On November 15, Unai Melgosa's team drew 3:3 against Portugal U-21 in Alverca do Ribatejo. Today, in La Spezia at the Alberto Picco Stadium, the Blue and Yellows faced Italy.
The hosts took the lead in the 26th minute when Giovanni Fabbian met a cross from the right flank and struck the ball into Ruslan Neshcheret’s net on the volley.

However, just two minutes later, Ukraine equalized. Illia Kvasnytsia intercepted the ball on the opponent's half, advanced to a shooting position, and drilled a low shot into the bottom corner, making it 1:1.

Still, Italy regained the lead before halftime. Pio Esposito rose highest to meet a corner kick and headed the ball past the Ukrainian goalkeeper.
In the second half, Ukraine’s head coach made several substitutions to intensify the game, which paid off. Two second-half substitutes, Anton Tsarenko, and Ihor Krasnopir, combined brilliantly for the latter to score the equalizer in the 83rd minute.
Thus, Unai Melgosa’s side recorded their second consecutive away draw in friendlies against top U-21 teams, both of which have also qualified for EURO 2025 (U-21).
