Yukhym Konoplya: "Glad I scored, but it’s just a goal since it didn’t help the team"
Ukraine national team defender Yukhym Konoplya shared his thoughts on the 1:2 defeat against Albania in the 2024/2025 Nations League.
"I believe we were superior to our opponents for most of the game until that set piece. The set piece changed things. After that, we seemed to recover, but we still conceded from a counterattack. We had more shots on goal, more possession, and controlled the game, but football is about key moments. Just a few moments and, unfortunately, we lost.
My goal? I knew that Vitaliy Mykolenko delivers excellent crosses. I was waiting for the ball to possibly reach the far post. I was lucky to strike it so well. The goalkeeper didn’t expect it, and it was an awkward shot for him. Of course, I'm happy to have scored, but it's just a goal because it didn’t help the team," said Yukhym Konoplya.
As a reminder, Ukraine will play another Nations League 2024/2025 Group B1 match in Prague on September 10, where the team will face Czechia at Eden Arena.
