The Ukrainian U-19 national team, which advanced to the Euro 2024 semifinals, which concluded a few days ago in Northern Ireland, has secured a spot at the World Cup for teams U-20.

The 2025 World Cup (U-20) will take place next fall in five cities in Chile — Valparaíso, Santiago, Viña del Mar, Rancagua, and Talca. Twenty-four teams from six confederations will participate. Initially, they will compete in six quadrants. The top two teams from each group, along with four of the six third-place finishers, will advance to the round of 16. From there — it follows the usual format.

Five national teams will represent Europe at the tournament based on the results of Euro 2024: Spain, France, Italy, Ukraine, and Norway.

As of today, seven additional participants in the World Cup are also known — potential opponents for the Ukrainian team: Chile (as hosts), USA, Mexico, Cuba, and Panama — from CONCACAF; New Zealand and New Caledonia — from Oceania. The rest will be determined next year after the respective age category championships in South America, Asia, and Africa (four spots each).

The draw for the 2025 World Cup (U-20) is scheduled to take place at the beginning of next year (the date has not yet been set). The seeding will be based on the total points earned by a country in its last five U-20 World Cups — 2023 (100%), 2019 (80%), 2017 (60%), 2015 (40%), and 2013 (20%). During the draw, geographical principles will also be taken into account.

It is worth noting that Uruguay is currently the reigning world champion among U-20 teams, while Ukraine won gold in 2019 under coach Oleksandr Petrakov.
