Today, on July 23, the UEFA Champions League second qualifying round match between "Dynamo" and "Partizan" officially kicks off the European cup season-2024/2025 for Ukraine. The game in Lublin, Poland will start at 9:00 PM Kyiv time.
Five clubs were originally set to represent our association on the international stage during the 2024/2025 season. However, "Dnipro-1" will not participate in the Conference League, so UEFA decided to record a loss for Dnipropetrovsk with a score of 0:3 against Hungary's "Academy Puskás." Therefore, we will support four Ukrainian teams in European cups.
The Vbet League champion, "Shakhtar," received a direct entry into the Champions League group stage.
The silver medalist, "Dynamo," starts today with a match against "Partizan" in the second qualifying round of the Champions League. To advance to the group stage, they will need to overcome three opponents.
According to the draw results, the winner of the "Dynamo" vs. "Partizan" duel will play against "Rangers" (Scotland). If they reach this stage, Kyivans will host their first match on August 6/7 and travel for the second one on August 13. In case of advancing to the third qualifying round of the Europa League, Kyivans will face the winner of the Swiss "Lugano" vs. Turkish "Fenerbahçe."
One club, "Kryvbas," will represent Ukraine in the Europa League – in the third qualification round. At this stage, they will meet with Czech "Viktoria." The first match will be played at home. If Kryvyi Rih fails to advance, they automatically move to the Conference League.
The fifth team of the UPL ("Polesye") will start in the second qualification round of the Conference League against Slovenian "Olimpija." In case of success, Zhytomyr's club will face the winner of Moldova's "Sheriff" vs. Sweden's "Elfsborg" in the third qualifying round. Our team needs to overcome three opponents to reach the main draw of the CL.
It is worth noting that 36 clubs will participate in each group stage of all three European cups.
The biggest change will be the transition from a traditional group stage to a single league stage including all participating teams. Now, in the Champions League, each club will have guaranteed at least eight matches against eight different opponents (four home and four away) instead of six games against three teams played both home and away. The top eight clubs in the league automatically qualify for the knockout phase, while teams ranked from ninth to 24th compete in a two-legged playoff to secure their path to the Round of 16.
Analogous changes will be applied to the Europa League (eight matches per team) and Conference League (six matches per team).
7th and 8th rounds of the Champions League and Europa League will take place in January 2025. The Conference League will conclude with its sixth round in December.
