Volodymyr Pyatenko: "Turkiye continues to improve each season. We need to approach our opponents with great seriousness..."

On July 19, the draw for the two rounds of the Women's EURO 2025 Qualifiers playoff took place in Switzerland. In the first knockout stage, the Ukraine women's team will face Turkey: the first leg will be played away on October 23, and the second leg will be held at home on October 29.

Ukraine's head coach, Volodymyr Pyatenko, shared his expectations for the autumn clashes with Turkey in a comment to the UAF official website:

"We have drawn a serious opponent. Turkiye has been improving every season, and in the group stage of the current EURO 2025 qualifiers, they only lost to Switzerland in League B, ahead of Hungary and Azerbaijan. This progress can largely be attributed to the rising level of the Turkish league, where most clubs now have the opportunity to strengthen their squads with quality foreign players, which boosts competition.

That's why we need to take the Turkish team very seriously. The fact that the season in Ukraine starts a month earlier should help us, so there shouldn't be issues with match fitness for my players. I hope we can also conduct a full preparation phase. We need to consider every detail because we are aiming only for victory".

As a reminder, following the group stage of the qualifiers, the top two teams from each Group A of the Nations League — Denmark, England, France, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Netherlands, and Spain — secured their spots in the final tournament of the European Championship, which will be held from July 2 to 27, 2025, in Switzerland. The host nation also qualifies. The remaining seven spots will be decided in two play-off rounds (home and away matches).
