Serhiy Rebrov: "Slovakia defeated Belgium in excellent style, we hold them in high esteem"

Ahead of the second match at EURO 2024 against Slovakia, the head coach of the Ukraine national team, Serhiy Rebrov, held a press conference.

"Everyone is responsible for the defeat to Romania. Both the coach and the players bear the blame. I select players based on their form and level. The European Championship is the highest level. Every fan has their view, and we have some squad issues, but all the called-up players are helping us.

"I have always considered Slovakia a strong team. They have players representing good clubs. When I analyzed them, I saw they are very disciplined. They defeated Belgium in excellent style. We hold them in high esteem.

"When I worked with Valeriy Lobanovskyi, he used to say, 'Don't listen to anyone except your coach, don't worry about what journalists think because they don't see training.' After the defeat, we analyzed the game. Everyone understands their mistakes; everyone should step onto the pitch with greater spirit and desire. I expect a good game because the previous one was a cold shower for us.

"This is the Euros, the highest level. For some players, this is their first European Championship, and it's a big responsibility for them. We need to respect and support the team. Mistakes will happen – that's unavoidable. We must forget the game against Romania and step onto the pitch at a new level, showing the lessons we have learned," Serhiy Rebrov said.
