Ukraine futsal team victorious against hosts in Lithuania tournament
Today, on April 13th, Ukraine's futsal national team commenced their journey at the international tournament in Lithuania with a match against the hosts.
Our team gathered for the first time in 2024 to compete in a tournament featuring Brazil, France, and Lithuania, the host of Euro 2026. In the opening match in Jonava, coached by Oleksandr Kosenko, our team faced off against the tournament hosts.
Early in the game, the blue-yellow squad waster several good opportunities, with the Lithuanian goalkeeper saving once. Midway through the first half, Lithuania's national team threatened Sukhov's goal, and in the 10th minute, they opened the scoring after a deflection from Korsun.
However, our boys didn't delay their response—Melnyk equalized with a classy strike after an inbound. In the 15th minute, Korsun and Zvarych extended Ukraine's lead.
At the beginning of the second half, Cherniavskyi scored the fourth goal for Ukraine from a free-kick. In the 30th minute, the hosts narrowed the gap, with Zagurskas converting a penalty kick. In the dying seconds of the match, a brilliant combination from our team concluded with Pedyash netting from distance, setting the final score at 5:2.
Our next match in the tournament, coached by Oleksandr Kosenko, will take place on April 15th against Brazil.

The team secured its spot in December last year after defeating Poland (5:3) in the elite round of qualification. Coached by Oleksandr Kosenko, Ukraine topped its group and earned a direct ticket to the World Cup. Alongside Ukraine, Europe's qualifiers include Kazakhstan, France, Spain, and Portugal. The remaining two slots will be decided on April 17th after playoff matches between the Netherlands and Finland, as well as Poland and Croatia. All participants of the final tournament will be known by April 24th, following the conclusion of regional qualifying competitions. The draw will take place in Tashkent in the summer, with the exact date to be announced later.
