In late February 2024, the Ukrainian women's national team will have to face off against Bulgaria in play-off matches to retain their place in Division B of the Nations League.

In a comment on the official website of the UAF, interim head coach of the Ukrainian women's national team Volodymyr Pyatnyk shared his expectations for these matches:

— I am trying to focus my players only on victory. Unfortunately, it does not always work out as desired, especially due to insufficient realization. However, I guarantee that in the upcoming matches against Bulgarian opponents, we will be focused on finding the shortest paths to their goal.

— What can you say about your future rivals?

— The Bulgarians finished second in their Group C of League D. They lost a match against Kosovo — 1:5, although they did not concede goals in the first matches. However, detailed gathering of information about the visitors is ahead.

— Do you know where the first match will take place?

— Not yet, nor do we know where we will host the Bulgarians in the return match. We will have to pay serious attention to logistical issues. After all, the matches are scheduled for late February, and much will depend on the weather conditions.

I am also concerned that our team may face problems with playing practice. Since domestic competitions start only in mid-March, it is necessary to carefully consider how to compensate for a lack of experience. Of course, it would be great if we could conduct a full training camp where there would be an opportunity to train on grass fields.

— Could it happen that both matches will have to be played in Bulgaria, as was recently the case with us against those same Greeks?

— I would prefer not. After all, two away games are a serious disadvantage. I think this won't happen, since we still have the right to decide where to host the Bulgarians. Here everything needs to be carefully weighed and every detail considered.

— In the last Nations League matches against Poland and Serbia, several strong players were unable to help our team for various reasons. Are you counting on them in the matches against Bulgaria?

— I hope that Kateryna Korsun, Anna Voronina, Olha Ovdychuk, and Viktoriya Golovach will be back in action. Then it will be crucial to approach the matches with Bulgaria fully armed.
