After a starting draw with Gent (1:1), Valery Krivetsov's wards traveled to face "Breidablik", the champions of Iceland, and also the first representative of their country in the group stages of European competitions.

"Zorya" held an advantage from the start of the match, attacking the goal but without danger for a long time. Until Gorbach opened his account in European cups on the 35th minute, finishing off Antykh's cross. The attacker of Luhansk could have completed his brace shortly after, but he failed to beat the goalkeeper from close range.

In stoppage time, Margaresson missed the near post with his header on a teammate's cross. Thus, in summary, the Ukrainians held their minimal advantage — 0:1.
