June 21 will mark the beginning of the third final tournament for Ukraine's under-21 national team in the European Championship. The previous two tournaments took place in 2006 and 2011, respectively.

Under Oleksiy Mykhaylichenko's leadership, the U-21 team qualified for the final match on their first attempt but unfortunately lost to the Netherlands (although they won in the group stage — 2:1). Meanwhile, Pavel Yakovenko's protégés, who were expected to perform well, failed to advance from the group stage.

In Euro-2006 (U-21), thirteen players born between 1983 and 1987 played at least one match for the national team: Oleksandr Aliyev, Mykola Yashchenko, Oleksandr Maximov, Taras Mykhalko, Artem Milevskyi, Adrian Pukancich, Andriy Pyatov, Oleksandr Rybka, Oleksandr Romanchuk, Yevhen Cheryak, Dmytro Chygrynskyi, Hryhorii Yamshchikov, and Oleksandr Yasenkov.

In Euro-2011 (U-21), thirteen players born between 1988 and 1991 also played at least one match for the national team: Denis Boyko, Bohdan Butko, Dmytro Harmash, Roman Zozulya, Yevhen Konoplyanka, Artem Kravets, Serhiy Kryvtsov, Mykola Morozuk, Artem Putyvtsiv, Yaroslav Rakitskyi, Yevhen Selin, Taras Stepanenko, and Andriy Yarmolenko.

Overall, Ukraine's under-21 national team has participated in fifteen cycles of the European Championship (U-21).
