During the draw for the elite round of qualification for the 2023 UEFA European Under-17 Championship, 32 teams will be divided into eight groups. The ceremony, which will include the participation of Ukraine's national team (players born in 2006 or later), will take place on December 8th and will start at 12:45 PM Kyiv time.
At stake are 15 spots in the final tournament, which will be held from May 17 to June 2, 2023, in Hungary. Eight group winners of the elite round and seven second-placed teams with the best results will advance to the finals. The host country also qualifies.
As a reminder, in the qualifying round for the 2023 UEFA European Under-17 Championship, Ukraine's youth national team under Yuriy Moroz secured first place in their group, outperforming Azerbaijan (5:2), Liechtenstein (7:0), and Bosnia and Herzegovina (1:1).
The draw procedure for the elite round of qualification for the 2023 UEFA European Under-17 Championship
Among the 32 participants in the draw, there will be 30 teams that have overcome the qualifying round barrier, as well as the Netherlands and Spain—two seeded teams that start directly from the elite round.
Prior to the draw, four seeding pots are formed based on ranking (based on qualification statistics).
The group winners of the qualifying round and second-placed teams will be distributed across different quartets. This rule does not apply to third-place finishers.
Based on previous decisions made by UEFA's Executive Committee and the Emergency Panel, Belarus and Ukraine cannot be drawn into the same group.
After the draw, the hosts of mini-tournaments will be determined.
