Andriy Pavelko, President of the Ukrainian Football Association and UEFA Executive Committee member commented on the draw results for the Euro 2024 qualifying tournament.
The qualification draw for the 2024 European Championship took place in Frankfurt am Main, according to which the blue-and-yellow team were drawn into Group C, where they will face Italy, England, North Macedonia, and Malta. UAF President Andriy Pavelko shared his thoughts on the draw.
"I am sure that all fans are excited about this draw. My colleagues from other football associations say it is a 'group of death.' However, I believe this is an opportunity for our players and our country to show the world that we do not fear big names and are ready to give them a fight. Only the results in this group will show whether this draw was good or bad."
Our players have the chance to face top opponents. We were lucky enough to be in one group with two current European Championship finalists. This is an important stage for our footballers to prove themselves and the world that we can play on equal footing with such rivals.
I am sure that Malta and North Macedonia will be good opponents both for us and for Italy and England. However, everything will be shown on the football field.
I have an important task for our players — to remember that we live in a country defended by our soldiers and heroes. It would have been great if all of our matches with opponents could take place in Ukraine — in Kyiv, Odessa, Lviv, Donetsk, Crimea. Our heroes, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, give us the opportunity to play football. The dream of our fans is to beat all opponents.
So we will see, this draw is very unusual. But I am sure that our players can do anything within their power. Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the heroes!" — said Andriy Pavelko.
