Ukrainian representatives became champions of the European University Football Championship
Ukrainian students became winners of the European Championship in football among higher education institutions, which was held in Polish Łódź from July 21 to 27.
The men's team of the State Trade and Economic University (Kyiv) advanced to the semifinals by defeating the team from Spain's Ramon Llull University in Barcelona. The match ended 1-1 after regular time, with Kyiv triumphing in the penalty shootout 5-4. In the final, they lost to a Romanian university team from Timisoara on penalties—7:8 (regular time—0:0).
The women's team of the State Pedagogical University of Uman named after P. G. Tychina defeated the Portuguese university team from Coimbra, current European champions among female students, in the semifinals. The match ended 1-1 after regular time, with our girls winning the penalty shootout 3-2. In the final, they lost to a French university team from Bordeaux—1:4—and thus won silver medals.
The finalists have qualified to represent Europe at the next World University Games in China in 2023. It is worth noting that Ukraine will be represented by two teams for the first time.
