National women's team coach Luis Cortes commented on the victory over Hungary (2:0) in a World Cup 2023 qualification match and noted that the entire squad and fans of Ukraine deserved this qualification.
"This is an amazing feeling! All players, staff, and supporters deserve this victory!
These were 15 days of hard work here in Raszew. The match against Scotland did not go as we expected. But today the girls fought for every ball from the first minute. This is what brought us the win.
The game was difficult for us. If the debut match against Scotland was unsuccessful for us, then today the girls started focused. Perhaps the Ukraine team did not control the ball much, but at any moment in the game, the girls understood what was expected of them. They attacked well into the space behind Hungary's defense. Also, they played strongly defensively.
We prepared very well for this match. We had a lot of information about the opponent. We knew everything about the players in the Hungarian team. Today our footballers did what we planned. The team executed the game plan from start to finish. Only such important matches are won like this, as Hungary is a good team. We won a real battle.
When the war began, all players were forced to leave the country and start playing for foreign clubs. Now the UAF is assessing how possible it is to resume competitions in Ukraine. There is no final decision yet. We don't know what lies ahead for our footballers. They are now on vacation. But we hope to learn something about next season as soon as possible because the players need to decide where they will play next,"— noted the Spanish specialist at a post-match press conference.
