Matches for the blue-and-yellow team in the 2023 World Cup qualifiers against Scotland and Hungary were originally scheduled for April 8th and 12th, respectively. However, due to Russian aggression and martial law in Ukraine, these matches were rescheduled for June 24th and 28th. Our national team was forced to host their opponents at the "Stal" stadium in Rzeszów, Poland.

The game against Scotland began with an exchange of moments in the third minute—Samson blocked a Thomas shot from close range, and Kozlova sealed the far post with a header. At the ninth minute, the British team opened the score after a dubious penalty awarded by the referee for a foul on Korsun.
The Ukrainians responded with a decent shot by Petrik in goal, but shortly afterward they conceded two more goals. First, Katbert finished off a combination play through the center of the penalty area, and later Thomas scored from a corner kick. At the 43rd minute, Thomas completed her brace, again following a corner.

The second half passed without any goals. Near the end of the match, Glushenko and Petrik had decent shots from distance, but our team could not manage to break the deadlock.
After conceding to Scotland, Ukraine lost their chances for a playoff spot in the 2023 World Cup qualifiers. At most, our girls can accumulate 13 points, as currently held by the Scots, but they lose on head-to-head results, so according to the regulations, they cannot overtake them. The next match for Coach Luis Cortés' team will be against Hungary on June 28th at this same stadium (kickoff—9:00 PM Kyiv time).
