Qualifying tournament for the Women's World Cup 2023. European Zone
Group Stage
Europe has eleven direct slots to the 2023 World Cup, and one team will participate in the intercontinental play-off.
Fifty-one national teams will compete in a two-legged tournament with home and away matches in nine groups: three groups of five teams (A—C) and six groups of six teams (D—I). Matches at this stage will take place from September 2021 to September 2022.
Group A: Sweden, Finland, Ireland, Slovakia, Georgia.
Group B: Spain, Scotland, Ukraine, Hungary, Faroe Islands.
Group C: Netherlands, Iceland, Czech Republic, Belarus, Cyprus.
Group D: England, Austria, Northern Ireland, North Macedonia, Latvia, Luxembourg.
Group E: Denmark, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Azerbaijan, Malta, Montenegro.
Group F: Norway, Belgium, Poland, Albania, Kosovo, Armenia.
Group G: Italy, Switzerland, Romania, Croatia, Moldova, Lithuania.
Group H: Germany, Portugal, Serbia, Israel, Turkey, Bulgaria.
Group I: France, Wales, Slovenia, Greece, Kazakhstan, Estonia.
The nine group winners will qualify directly for the 2023 World Cup. The second-placed teams in each group will continue to compete at the next stage.
Play-off
Nine teams that finish second in their groups will participate in a play-off, which consists of two stages.
The top three among the second-placed teams will have an opportunity to compete directly at the second stage of the play-offs. Six remaining participants will battle for three spots in one-legged matches at the first stage. Three winners from the first round and three teams that qualified directly to the second stage will determine the trio of UEFA Women's World Cup playoff winners in one-legged duels.
The two winners of the second stage of the UEFA play-offs with the highest ranking (criteria applied to group stage results plus second-round playoffs) will receive automatic spots at the 2023 World Cup, while the third winner will proceed to the intercontinental playoff.
