On February 2nd in Nyon, the draw ceremony for the Euro-2025 (U-21) qualifying tournament took place, after which the calendar of matches involving Ukraine's youth team was determined. This cycle will be the 16th in our history.
In the previous 15 cycles, Ukraine's U-21 national team made it to the final tournament three times. In 2006, under Oleksiy Mykhaylichenko, they won a silver medal; in 2011, the promising team led by Pavlo Yakovenko failed to advance from the group stage; this summer, Ruslan Rotan's squad will try their luck at the forum. It is worth noting that Euro-2023, which will take place between June 21st and July 8th in Georgia and Romania, will feature 16 teams. According to the draw results held on October 18th of last year in Bucharest, blue-and-yellow Ukraine landed in Group B, where they will face Romania, Spain, and Croatia. The three best teams at Euro-2023 (excluding France and England) will receive tickets to the 2024 Olympics.
Regarding historical performance summaries, Ukraine's "youth" team also played in knockout matches twice but both times unsuccessfully. In 2001, the team was led by Volodymyr Onyshchenko; in 2014, it was Serhiy Kovalець.
